Yamadori hunting

As usual this part of year I book some time for yamadori hunting in forest. Like so many bonsai enthusiasts in Europe I’m also facing very unfavorable weather for any bonsai activity.  I did not finish winter protection in my garden, does not manage to paint shelves, and did not finish repotting and so on.
Zatiaľ som neukončil zimovanie stromov, počasie mi nedovolilo natrieť lavice, nestihol som presadiť stromy čo som mal v pláne a tak ďalej. Asi to všetci z tejto jari-nejari poznáte.

Today it was bit warmer and ice started to give up.

But you cannot postpone digging new trees too much in spring. So despite bad weather during last few days I did several trips ad dig few new trees. Since temperatures were still falling below zero I stored trees in garage after potting. Today they went out and I hope for bit better weather in next days.

Ale kopanie yamadori sa veľmi odkladať nedá.  Jedna vec je počasie a druhá je neodolateľná túžba doniesť domov pár nových stromov.
I was looking for real signs of spring. Not many but nature is showing its power.

On trip I found this. My shue is size 45 so you can imagine how big animal made this. I was bit scared :)/ Na toto som dnes narazil. Moja topánka má veľkosť 45 tak si viete predstaviť aké veľké zviera to muselo urobiť. Trocha som sa zľakol. :)

Todays find. /Nález z dnešného výletu.

During last week visits of my blog went over 100.000. About half of this is domestic and rest is from many other countries. I’m running my blog for almost five years. I’m happy that it attracts its viewers. Hope you all like it.

Carpinus Betulus No.10

Last week I have done wiring of this hornbeam. I'm happy with result so far. Despite cold wave during last few days I think tree will make it through this winter.

Cornus mas No.1 in new pot

During the weekend I moved this cornus into new pot. Its temporary pot, rather big yet, but it will make moving tree much safer. Old plastic pot tends to deform when carried during season.
Roots of the tree in zeolit are shoving very good condition, pot was completely full of fine roots after 2-3 seasons in last plastic pot. Since it is yamadori it still has a lot of old thick roots inside rootball, next time when repotted some of them must be removed. Hopefully it will allow using much smaller pot.
